    Chapter Index

Wuyingling, a well-known but slightly challenging hill, is known as the most beautiful Xiaobaiyue. The altitude climbs 882 meters, and the trail is 7 kilometers long. At an altitude of more than 600 meters, there is the densest area of cherry blossom trees. It is often shrouded in clouds and mist, and the flowers are looming in the mist, just like a fairyland.

At about 800 meters above sea level, there is a cherry blossom viewing platform with a wide field of view. You can take in the beautiful scenery of the cherry blossoms below. It has a wide field of view and is the best place to watch the cherry blossoms.

At the highest point, Wanggaoliao, where you can have a panoramic view of the mountain, cannot be said to be magnificent, but it is also beautiful.

Although this place is far away from our home, it is not far away. Since it is a popular location, it is very convenient to take public transportation. It takes about an hour to reach the destination from our home.

Shu Qi and Shu Wei came once before, but they returned without even seeing the cherry blossoms. The reason was that Shu Wei sprained his foot on the road, and the weather was also dark because the two people, who had no mountain climbing experience, misjudged the time. They didn’t even reach the halfway point, and the sky was getting dark, so they had to return disappointed.

Shu Qi has always wanted to come again, but Shu Wei always pushed her away, and this time she will see if she can catch the tail end of the cherry blossom season.

Early in the morning, Shu Qi got dressed and went downstairs. She saw Brother Sheng sitting in the living room. Brother Sheng was still wearing the same sports top and shorts. The only difference was that today he was wearing a light-colored sports top and khaki sports shorts.

Brother Sheng was holding a black backpack. The backpack was not big and slightly bulging, and must have contained some things. Brother Sheng’s eyes were blank, and when he saw the sound of Shu Qi coming downstairs, he subconsciously turned his head, but when he met his eyes, he looked away slightly.

Even so, the moment Brother Sheng saw Shu Qi, three words came to mind unconsciously: “…so beautiful.”

Shu Qi’s outfit is not special. She wears a black peaked cap with a single ponytail tied through the eye of the hat, revealing her slender and white neckline. Her upper body is a sports bra and a light-colored short-length long-sleeved top. When her arms are shaken or raised, her soft and white waist is slightly exposed.

The plumpness of the chest is tightly hidden under the clothes. It is not obvious but also outlines a round shape, making people pass by and can’t help but take a peek. The lower body is black shark pants with white stockings and a pair of light-colored sneakers, which makes it look slender and neat. This outfit can also be called a classic sports combination.

“Dad, what’s in that bag?” Seeing Brother Sheng’s blank look, Shu Qi felt a little funny and asked curiously.

“I used to carry some climbing stuff with me when I climbed mountains.” Brother Sheng forced a smile and stood up without daring to take another look.

“Let’s go. It should be evening when we go out and drive back and forth. Don’t delay it too late. It will be dangerous to go down the mountain.” Brother Sheng walked out without looking back.

Shu Qi nodded and walked out; the two took the train together for a while, then transferred to a bus and arrived at their destination.

Except for the occasional necessary conversation, the two of them were almost silent along the way.

Under the trailhead, there is a large stone monument located on a gentle slope, with three large red letters written on it – Wuying Ridge.

In front of the signboard next to the trailhead, climbers in twos and threes gathered to check the map; some people had already set off and walked slowly up the trail, not in a hurry, as if they came just to breathe fresh air.

People come in and out of Lindaokou from time to time, but there is still a natural distance between them. It is neither deserted nor lively. It is just a peaceful atmosphere suitable for setting off.

“Shu Qi, you go ahead, I’ll just follow your pace.” Brother Sheng said.

Shu Qi nodded and stepped forward, not at a fast pace.

The mountain road stretches quietly in the forest, like a thin line hidden outside the human world, weaving through the dense green intertwined with mountain cherry trees and fir trees.

The air in the forest is humid, mixed with the smell of soil, fallen leaves and flowers, which is light and long; the sunlight sifts down from the branches and leaves at high places and sprinkles on the mountain path paved with bluestones, forming mottled light spots.

Brother Sheng stepped on the stone steps and felt the breath of the forest. His originally heavy and lonely mood improved unconsciously.

The chirping of insects and birds is endless in the mountain forest, resounding layer by layer through the tree canopy and the gaps in the forest. Some sounds are sharp and crisp, and some are deep and long; like a distant call or a close whisper, they weave together with the shadows of the trees and the sound of the wind to create the breath of the mountain.

Such an environment is neither noisy nor silent, but has just the right amount of tranquility.

Brother Sheng looked at his daughter-in-law in front of him, and at the ponytail beating with his steps, a softness gradually rose in his heart; his depressed mood gradually disappeared, and he began to enjoy the phytoncides in the forest.

Shu Qi occasionally looked back and saw Brother Sheng, whose face was gradually softening, and felt a warmth in her heart for some reason. The feeling that she had done something right rippled in her heart, and her joy gradually spread, and her steps became lighter.

As the slope became steeper, beads of sweat appeared on Shu Qi’s forehead, and she began to pant slightly. Occasionally, she looked back at her father-in-law, and saw that he was walking on flat ground, his face was not red, he was not panting, and his breathing was very steady.

“Shu Qi, if you feel tired, tell your dad, take a rest, and remember to breathe in step with your steps.” Perhaps Brother Sheng had relaxed a little and took the initiative to talk to her.

“Okay.” Shu Qi nodded, with some beads of sweat rolling down her cheeks, and said with a smile.

The two continued to climb up for a long time. The mountain road gradually became wider, the trees gradually became sparse, and the field of vision also expanded. At this time, they were gradually approaching 600 meters above sea level. The surroundings were gradually surrounded by light mist of different thicknesses, sometimes gently passing through the corners of clothes, sometimes like a layer of gauze hanging between the trees.

Shu Qi’s face was flushed, sweat was pouring down, she stood there panting, her legs and feet began to shake slightly. Seeing this, Brother Sheng took out the prepared thermos cup from his backpack, handed it over, and said with a smile: “Let’s take a rest.”

Shu Qi nodded and said “Okay.” Her eyes drifted to Brother Sheng’s hand, which was tender and white, as if on purpose, she gently touched He’s finger when taking the water bottle; Brother Sheng’s fingers felt the tenderness of his daughter-in-law’s fingertips, and his arms were slightly pimpled, but he didn’t mean to dodge.

Shu Qi silently stepped closer to Brother Sheng, but Brother Sheng didn’t make any move when he saw this. The two of them stood together, their shoulders touching each other slightly. In this slightly dense environment, it seemed as if some switch had been touched, and the distance between them had narrowed.

Shu Qi opened the bottle cap and took a sip of water. She found that the water was cool and had a sweet taste. After tasting it carefully, she realized that it was a sports drink mixed with cold water. It was obviously specially prepared by Sheng Ge. She was silent for a moment and said, “Dad, you are always so attentive and considerate.”

Brother Sheng was stunned for a moment and before he could react, Shu Qi continued: “Shu Wei will never help me prepare these.” The tone seemed a little sad and a little sad.

Brother Sheng was still thinking about how to soften his son’s cheeks, but Shu Qi suddenly continued to walk forward. Seeing this, Brother Sheng followed.

After walking for a short distance, we arrived at the place with the densest concentration of cherry blossom trees.

At this time, most of the cherry blossoms on the branches have withered, and the crown of the tree has become sparse, revealing the gray-brown branches that were originally covered. A few remaining flowers bloom stubbornly, like dancers who are not willing to end, spinning alone on the final stage.

The air was filled with a slightly moist fragrance of flowers, and the faint mist slowly drifted away with the remaining petals, covering the entire cherry blossom forest in a layer of soft light and shadow.

The ground is slightly wet, and the fallen cherry blossoms are mottled. The pink and white petals stick to the moist soil, as if they have also melted into this silent and beautiful withering.

The cherry blossom season has indeed come to an end. The pink and white trees that were once full of clouds are now only a few scattered clusters scattered on the slightly dry branches. When the wind blows, the flowers are no longer in full bloom, but occasionally one or two petals fall off and scatter mottledly on the ground and tree trunks, quietly reflecting a light, almost sad tenderness.

A few isolated old cherry trees can be vaguely seen in the distance. The branches are also sparse. The old branches are like fingers reaching into the void, gently cutting through the floating mist, as if silently telling the irreparable sorrow.

Shu Qi stood there blankly for a long time, looking at this beautiful scenery with many thoughts.

“It’s so beautiful.” Shu Qi’s tone was dry. She didn’t know what she was thinking of, or what kind of emotion this scene gave her, but there was a faint hint of sobs in her tone.

Brother Sheng could hear something was wrong in his daughter-in-law’s tone. In these three short words, he could vaguely feel the bitterness of the couple who had been apart from each other for many years.

Brother Sheng closed his eyes, feeling pity in his heart, sighed slightly, and stood behind Shu Qi.

Brother Sheng didn’t say anything more, but at the moment when the other party lowered her head slightly and said nothing, he slowly stretched out his hand and gently put his palms on her shoulders; the force was not heavy, but it carried a silent firmness.

The temperature in her palms came through the fabric of her clothes, steady and warm, without too many movements or deliberate words of comfort, but the presence of those hands was like a barrier, blocking out the surging emotions in her heart and blocking out the noise and indifference of the world.

She didn’t look up for a while, closed her eyes, and felt the weight quietly.

It was a kind of warmth of being seen and understood; as if as long as those hands were still on her shoulders, she would have enough reasons to survive this fragile period in front of her.

No words, but more reassuring than any words.

“Let’s go.” Brother Sheng said softly.
