    Chapter Index

Shuwei was sitting on the steps outside the entrance, with his long legs stretched out casually, holding a cigarette in his hand. He lowered his head and slid his phone, his fingertips carelessly swiping across the screen. There was a contemptuous and meaningless expression on his face, as if he didn’t care about anything.

The phone suddenly started to vibrate, the screen lit up, and two words came into view.

    Shu Ning.

He’s eyes moved slightly, and the corner of his mouth raised a meaningful arc, like the expression of a hunter waiting for his prey to fall into a trap. He raised his hand and flicked the ashes of the cigarette, which fell randomly on the stone steps at his feet. He slowly clicked the answer button with his other hand and put the phone close to his ear.

Shuwei chuckled and lowered his voice slightly: “Hello? What’s wrong?”

“…Are you busy now?” Shu Ning’s voice on the other end of the phone was clear and a little soft.

Shuwei tilted his head, puffed out a puff of smoke, and the smoke rings dispersed into the dark night. He said lazily, “I’m not busy. What’s wrong?”

“Um…I want to ask you about your trip to Japan that you mentioned before…” Shu Ning’s tone showed a little hesitation, as if he was afraid of being disturbed, and he seemed to be hiding some expectations.

“…” Shuwei raised the corners of his mouth slightly and said nothing. He just slowly raised his hand and took a deep breath of cigarette.

    “…Book Viagra?”

“…” After a moment, he slowly exhaled a puff of smoke, almost silently, but still did not speak.

“…Good…good brother, good sister…husband…” The voice on the other end of the phone trembled slightly, revealing an unknown ambiguity.

Shu Wei said with an unmistakable low tone: “What, you changed your mind?”

“No…it’s just…can we really go together? Two weeks, won’t it be too long…” She lowered her voice, revealing a hint of shyness, mixed with a faint uneasiness.

Shuwei laughed softly, and gently rubbed the edge of the phone with his fingertips. The smoke curled up between his fingers, like a snake slowly coiling around.

He lowered his tone, with a hint of undercurrent of magnetism in his voice: “What are you afraid of? Didn’t I say it? Don’t worry, no one will know as long as I’m here.”

He tilted his head and flicked the ashes of his cigarette, “And…” He smiled, his tone was low and ambiguous, and slowly added, “When the time comes, I will take good care of you. You don’t have to think about anything, just follow me.”

There was a period of silence on the other end of the phone, as if he was caught in some kind of struggle, and finally he responded softly: “Um…ok.”

“Be good, don’t let me down when the time comes.” After saying this, he slowly put out the cigarette in his hand, raised his head, his eyes were bottomless, like a hunter finally catching his prey, with a faint cruel smile.

Shuwei hung up the phone and looked down at the phone, as if reminiscing about the ambiguous aftertaste just now.

Then, he slides open the address book and stops his finger on a name.

    Yushan.

He did not rush to take it out, but took out the cigarette case from his pocket, took out another cigarette, lit it, took a deep breath, and let the smoke stay in his lungs for a few seconds before slowly exhaling.

The outline of he is half hidden behind the smoke, his expression is calm and cunning.

Then, he presses the dial key.

After a few beeps, the other end of the phone was connected, and a soft but capable female voice came: “Hello? Shuwei?”

“Yeah.” He’s voice was low, but his tone was a little more serious than before when he spoke to Shu Ning: “Are you busy?”

“I just finished taking a shower.” Yushan’s tone was natural, with a hint of relaxed and familiar intimacy: “What? You suddenly missed me?”

Shuwei chuckled, his tone much calmer: “Over in Japan, I have arranged the flight. The flight is at noon the day after tomorrow. I chose the hotel you said you liked last time, and the room type has also been upgraded.”

Yushan smiled: “Oh? You are so considerate, do you have any plans?”

He blew out a puff of smoke and said calmly: “For some entertainment, you have to accompany me for one or two times. The rest of the time… you can treat it as a vacation.”

“Gee, we’re on vacation, so I need to bring a swimsuit, right?” she asked with a smile.

Shuwei replied calmly: “Yes, the bathtub in the room is very big.”

There was silence on the other end of the phone, and then a chuckle came: “…I understand, Manager Zhang is really attentive.”

“Don’t call me that, it’s so awkward.” He replied lazily, flicking the cigarette ashes down again with his fingertips, sparks flickering like a faint light in his eyes.

“…Then what should I call you?” Yushan asked.

The corners of Shuwei’s lips curled up: “You can call it whatever you want, as long as you remember that I invited you to go on this trip.”

Yushan did not ask any more questions, and her tone became softer: “…Okay, dear, I will listen to you.”

After hanging up the phone, he sat quietly for a while, with only a section of flame remaining on the knuckles of the cigarette in his hand.He put out the cigarette butt on the stone steps, flicked it, stood up, turned around and walked towards the entrance.

    Click.

The sound of water, cooking and the tapping of dishes came from the kitchen.

As soon as he stepped into the door, he smelled the charming aroma of stir-fried beef in the air. He stood at the entrance and paused for a second. He glanced across the kitchen and saw his father and Shu Qi hurriedly preparing dinner.

He was slightly stunned when he saw Shu Qi’s cheeks were flushed, her hair was a little messy and stuck to her forehead and side of her chin with sweat.

Shuwei was silent for a moment, thinking that it looked like the kitchen was really hot and cooking was really hard. A complicated look flashed across Shu Qi’s eyes, and then he returned to normal.

Then, he put on indoor slippers and walked in calmly.

“Is the kitchen hot? How about I buy a drink?” he asked softly.

“Ah, okay, buy me some sugar-free greens.” Brother Sheng said calmly as he stir-fried the beef without looking back.

“Wife, do you drink the same thing?”

“Ah? Uh-huh.” Shu Qi was stunned for a moment, then replied.

As the night gets darker, the brightly lit hand-operated shop at the entrance of the alley exudes a sweet aroma, and there are still scattered customers lined up at the door.

Shuwei put one hand in his pocket and the other hand was holding the drink bag he just got. The ice cubes inside were shaking and making a crisp sound when they hit the wall of the cup.

In the bag, a cup of sugar-free green tea, another cup of honey lemon, and his own black tea latte.

The smoke formed a circle between his fingers. He raised his hand to flick the ashes, his eyes looking through the hazy smoke with a sense of indifference.

The trembling voice on Shu Ning’s phone just now flashed through his mind. He unconsciously formed a bad smile at the corner of his mouth, but then put it away.

When you open the door of your home, you are greeted by the gentle light and the heat and aroma of the food.

The aroma of fried beef mixed with the sweetness of vegetable soup and the steaming heat of white rice create a homely and warm atmosphere.

Shu Wei walked over, his eyes swept across the dining table, and finally landed on Shu Qi.

She was lowering her head and playing with the dishes and chopsticks, her hair was scattered, her side face was slightly red, as if it had been burned by steam, and her fingers seemed to be trembling slightly.

He put the drink on the table and said calmly: “Here comes the drink.”

Shu Qi subconsciously looked up at He, and her eyes briefly intersected with Shu Wei’s. At that moment, She seemed to miss a beat of breath, and her eyes instinctively dodge away.

Brother Sheng came over, sat on the chair, and said casually: “Thank you for your hard work.”

Shuwei sat down as if nothing had happened, with a lazy attitude. Brother Sheng turned his head, looked at the food on the table, and said lightly: “Eat while it’s hot.”

After a few bites of food, Shuwei suddenly spoke, with an unintentional relaxed tone: “…By the way, I’m going on a business trip starting the day after tomorrow, for about two weeks.”

The moment the words fell, Brother Sheng paused with his chopsticks, and the spoon Shu Qi had just raised to her lips also stopped slightly.

The two of them raised their heads almost at the same moment, their eyes colliding in the air.

    That moment.

Obviously less than half a second.

Time seems to have stood still.

It was a collision that was so hot that it almost exploded, like newly ignited gunpowder, which burst into flames the moment it touched.

Brother Sheng’s pupils shrank slightly, and his sight was so scorching that it was almost suffocating. The suppressed emotions were like a flame ignited in an instant, so hot that even breathing became difficult.

Shu Qi seemed to be burned by he’s eyes, her lips were slightly open, her breath was suffocated, her eyes were flickering, and the next second she looked away hastily, lowering her head hurriedly, pretending to focus on scooping the soup.

Her heart was beating so fast, as if it was about to burst out of her chest, and the heat burned from her cheeks to her ears, and then spread all the way to the side of her neck and collarbone, making her almost unbearable.

Brother Sheng tilted his head slightly and picked up a chopstick of vegetables pretending to be calm, but found that his palms were slightly sweaty.

Shu Qi lowered her eyes and stared at the vegetable soup in the bowl, her cheeks so red that she almost bled.

The heat still lingered between them, like some unspeakable secret, so hot that even the base of their ears turned red.

The moment their breaths intertwined, they could almost hear each other’s rapid breathing.
