    Chapter Index

    Charming stepmother

    “That’s almost it.”

Li Xin stood up from the lawn and wiped the sweat from his forehead.

Although she was a little tired, she was still quite proud looking at the finished products.

She packed up her tools and prepared to go back to the house.

“Where have you been these days?”

The abrupt male voice reached her ears, as familiar as ever, but with a hint of complexity.

Wei Xu stood behind her, still wearing a suit that he had no time to change into.

Li Xin was stunned for a moment, then slowly turned around.

Her cheeks were slightly red because of the exercise just now. However, a pair of eyes were bright and clear, as if they had been washed clean by the clear water.

Her eyebrows were curved and the corners of her mouth were slightly raised:

    “It’s you.”

Li Xin smiled softly, and her beauty mark slightly raised with her smile.

Wei Xu couldn’t tell what was wrong with her, but he felt that there was nothing wrong with her.

Her expression seemed like nothing had happened last time. This should have made him happy, but instead he felt like someone was tugging at his heart.

For no other reason, Li Xin’s eyes no longer had that strong emotion.

There is nothing more sad than a dead heart, right?

The most frightening thing is not her hatred, but her indifference.

“What do you want from me?”

    she asked.

Wei Xu’s Adam’s apple moved, and what he wanted to say was stuck in it, tightly blocked.

He looks pretty good, a little thinner and a little more stable. But he wasn’t what you would call haggard or haggard, nor was he mentally exhausted.

“You… don’t plan to go back?”

Wei Xu was silent for a long time before he asked.

Li Xin shook his head and looked through him to the fence outside his yard.

“If you don’t go, just think that ‘Li Xin’ inside has disappeared. It’s better this way.”

It seemed like the fence was a little worn and she should find someone to fix it.

Wei Xu clenched his hands subconsciously:

    “I’m sorry.”

He lowered his head slightly, and Li Xin could not see his expression, but could only catch a glimpse of the outline of his face.

    “If I ask you-”

Wei Xu lowered his voice, but was interrupted by Li Xin.

“No need, I’m fine like this.”

She raised the water pipe in her hand, her smile unchanged.

Wei Xu suddenly felt that what she said was unnecessary. The way she looked at him was like looking at a stranger.

And she was just being polite and friendly.

The bitter feeling in his mouth spread to the tip of his nose and reached his chest.

“Won’t you invite me to come in and sit down?”

He heard his own death throes.

Li Xin did not speak, but turned around in front of him and walked towards the door.

    “Go back.”

    She tilted her face slightly.

After saying that, she left here without looking back.

Wei Xu stood quietly, maintaining that movement. After a long time, when he felt that his twitching face finally calmed down, he let out a long breath.

“It’s more uncomfortable than I imagined.”

    he muttered.

After that, he took steps and gradually walked away in the opposite direction to Li Xin.

His vision seemed a little blurry, probably because the weather was not very good today. He should remember to wear sunglasses next time.

The sound of the car starting was particularly clear in the quiet street. Li Xin sat at the window and watched Wei Xu drive away.

She took a sip from the teacup and looked at the calendar again.

If she remembered correctly, this was the first time they had met Wei Xu in four months since they left, and the weather was already showing signs of getting colder.

She thought he would be sad, but she didn’t expect that nothing had changed.

    ——It’s really annoying.
