    210. High fever

Gu Pan was sick, very sick.

She didn’t even have the strength to open her eyes when she was lying on the bed. Sometimes, even if she woke up briefly, it would look no different from a deep sleep that was almost comatose.

Although Gu Chengjue was put in a bad mood by the two men who sent his sister back this morning, he could only swallow his jealousy for the time being and concentrate on taking care of his sick sister.

He didn’t know what happened to Gu Pan, why the two men sent her back, and why Gu Pan suddenly started to have a high fever after returning.

But whenever Gu Chengjue wanted to take Gu Pan from the bed to the hospital, the sleeping girl would let out a whimpering cry to express her resistance.

The young man had to do everything himself.

In addition to doing necessary things, Gu Chengjue stayed with Gu Pan almost every moment, looking at his sister’s burning red face, and tirelessly changing her cooling towel over and over again.

Seeing Gu Pan being sent back by the two men was enough to make Gu Chengjue worried.

But what was even more worrying was that Gu Pan was confused and shouted out the names of several people without knowing what he was dreaming about.

Including “Cheng Jue” shouted out with a sob from time to time.

The young man could hardly tell whether it was his sister who was so fragile that she would break if she touched him that made him more heartbroken, or the names whose pronunciation could not be clearly heard that made him more heartbroken.

But as soon as Gu Pan shouted “Cheng Jue”, the young man would still immediately grab Gu Pan’s hand, put her warm palm against his face, and whisper from the bedside:

    “I’m here.”

Then Gu Pan’s frowned eyebrows would relax slightly, and he would fall into a deeper dream again.

This high fever lasted for a day and a night.

In the early morning, Gu Chengjue was taking a nap next to the bed when he was awakened by the sound of the doorbell.

The young man frowned and opened the door impatiently, and saw a man wearing glasses standing in front of the door holding a huge medical box.

“My sister is not at home.” Gu Chengjue had a good impression of Xu Jingtang before because of his grandma’s affairs, but after yesterday morning, that good impression was long gone.

After saying that, Gu Chengjue was about to close the door.

The man outside the door remained motionless and seemed to have no intention of stopping him.

But just a second before the door was closed, the young man heard the man’s cold voice.

“If she continues to be sick like this, her life may be in danger.”

The words that were so calm and almost cold were like a cold notice from the hospital, making the young man’s heart tighten.

There was silence in the door for two seconds, and then the door, which had only a gap left, was quickly opened again.

    “Come in.”

Xu Jingtang walked into Gu Pan’s bedroom immediately after entering the door. He frowned when he looked at the girl on the bed who was obviously unnaturally red.

“When did she start having a high fever?” When she first came out, she didn’t have any body temperature, but she just didn’t look energetic. When she got near her home, she had a faint fever. She wanted to go directly to the hospital, but Gu Pan insisted on going home.

They know that she wants to escape back to her familiar space, stay in a place where she feels safe, and digest what happened before, so she can only go along with it.

Unexpectedly, she started to lose contact as soon as she returned home. At this time, Xu Jingtang’s research institute had analyzed the ingredients of the medicine, and guessed that the little girl’s condition was not very optimistic at the moment, so she hurriedly came to the door with the medicine box.

“Yesterday after you left, she slept for about two hours and couldn’t get up.” Gu Chengjue watched Xu Jingtang take out the stethoscope from the medicine box, and his tone was no longer unfriendly at first, “I then took her temperature and it was already 38 degrees. I wanted to take her to the hospital but she really didn’t want to go, so I had to go downstairs to buy medicine. By then she couldn’t open her eyes…”

After listening to the boy’s description, Xu Jingtang felt confident while listening to the little girl’s heartbeat.

It seems to be a side effect of that aphrodisiac.

After all, that kind of thing stimulates the activity of brain cells in a short period of time, and it will definitely cause some negative reactions later, and high fever may be just one of them.

Fortunately, he had been prepared before this possibility came, and the medicines he brought also had corresponding types. So Xu Jingtang put away the stethoscope very skillfully, took out the spare disposable medical gloves in the medical box, and started mixing the medicines after wearing them.

“What kind of medicine are these?” The bottles and jars in the medical kit were unfamiliar to Xu Jingtang, but they were extremely unfamiliar to Gu Chengjue.

Because there were no instructions on dosage or formula, the labels on each bottle were so short that Gu Chengjue felt it was unreasonable.

“Sodium lactate Ringer…” Halfway through Xu Jingtang’s words, he suddenly realized that his explanation was not very user-friendly. But after thinking about it, he really didn’t know how to explain this thing, so he pursed his lips and stopped talking.

“Where did it come from? Hospital?” Gu Chengjue seemed to be more interested in the source of the medicine.

“You can understand it that way.” After the man mixed the medicine in the same bottle, he stood up, looked around, and hung the medicine bottle on the mosquito net frame beside Gu Pan’s bed.

After inserting the syringe for Gu Pan, Xu Jingtang rummaged through the medicine box and found some small tablets in glass bottles and handed them to Gu Chengjue: “Twice a day, one tablet at a time, please excuse me.”

Gu Chengjue took the medicine from Xu Jingtang doubtfully, “Then how did my sister get so sick? What did you do before you sent her back?”

This question was getting to the point. Xu Jingtang pondered for a moment and realized that he didn’t know how to explain to this young man what had happened before.

“What did you and that person named He do to her?” The man’s silence made Gu Chengjue even more uneasy. He took a step forward, and the hand holding the medicine bottle suddenly tightened, and several blue blood vessels were clearly visible, “How did you know that her condition had worsened?”

Because the more doubts he thought about, Gu Chengjue’s voice became uncontrollable. Xu Jingtang glanced at Gu Pan, who was sleeping soundly, and looked at the emotional young man in front of him: “Let’s go out and talk.”

Only then did Gu Chengjue realize that he had lost control of his emotions. He glanced at Gu Pan on the bed with some remorse before walking out of the room.

After closing the door of Gu Pan’s room, Gu Chengjue’s mood calmed down a bit. He took a deep breath and looked at Xu Jingtang: “What purpose do you have for my sister? I will not allow you to hurt her.”

In fact, it was not that Xu Jingtang couldn’t understand the young man’s angry mood. After all, it was quite frustrating for such a good person to start falling ill after being sent back by He and He Zhizhou.

“Neither I nor He Zhizhou ever thought of harming your sister.” Xu Jingtang looked directly into the young man’s eyes without hesitation, exuding a sense of magnanimity, “Please believe this.”

“Then what’s going on?” Gu Chengjue showed no shyness in front of the powerful man, showing a composure that was totally inappropriate for his age. “Can you tell me in detail?”

“I’m sorry.” The young man’s words seemed to remind Xu Jingtang of something unpleasant, and a slight chill suddenly appeared in his eyes. “Although it is not convenient to reveal the whole story, please believe that we will definitely resolve this matter properly.”
