    4. Shen Xitong

As soon as Shen Qinglan arrived at the door of her house, she heard a clear female voice coming from the living room, and the hearty laughter of her mother Chu Yunrong. She paused slightly, her cold face expressionless.

“What are you doing standing at the door?” A gentle male voice came from behind.

Shen Qinglan turned around and saw her brother Shen Junyu looking at her with a smile. He stepped forward and stretched out his hand to rub Shen Qinglan’s hair, “Did you know that your brother was coming home, so you waited here for me?”

The corners of Shen Qinglan’s mouth curled up slightly, and a hint of warmth appeared in his eyes.

Shen Junyu put his arms around his sister’s shoulders and walked in.

    “Mom, we are back.”

In the living room, the mother and daughter who were talking and laughing stopped.

“Jun Yu and Qing Lan are back. You don’t know how funny the joke Tongtong just told was so funny that it made my stomach hurt.” Chu Yunrong had a smile on her face.

Shen Qinglan looked at the woman who looked at them with a smile. She had long, slightly curly chestnut hair, an oval face, exquisite makeup, and was wearing a green dress. She was elegant, beautiful, and generous. This was the adopted daughter of the Shen family, Shen Xitong.

Shen Junyu curled his lips, “What joke is so funny? Tell it and let me hear it.”

Shen Xitong choked slightly, “It’s not that funny. It’s just my mother’s support. Brother, Qinglan, I brought you gifts when I returned home. I’ll bring them to you after dinner later.”

Shen Junyu nodded with a dispensable attitude, while Shen Qinglan said “thank you” lightly.

The cold attitude of the brother and sister made Shen Xitong a little embarrassed. There was a hint of grievance in his eyes, but he didn’t say anything more, but Chu Yunrong on the side couldn’t stand it anymore.

“Jun Yu, Qing Lan, what’s the matter with you? Tongtong came all the way back and still remembered to bring you a gift. Is this your attitude?”

“Mom.” Shen Xitong pulled Chu Yunrong’s sleeve and shook her head gently.

Shen Junyu glanced at Shen Qinglan beside him, saw that she had no mood swings, and patted her shoulder in a comforting gesture.

Shen Qinglan was a little helpless. Did she look so fragile?

“I’ll go up and see grandpa first.” Shen Qinglan ignored Chu Yunrong’s words and went straight upstairs after saying this.

Chu Yunrong looked at her daughter’s cold back and opened her mouth, but in the end she didn’t say anything.

Shen Qinglan went straight to the study room, and sure enough, he found Mr. Shen who was practicing calligraphy at his desk.

    “Grandpa, are you practicing calligraphy?”

When Mr. Shen saw the people coming in, he smiled broadly, put down his pen, and waved, “Come on, come on, come and take a look at what grandpa has written.”

Shen Qinglan walked over and saw on the desk a picture of “Tranquility and Zhiyuan” that Mr. Shen had just finished writing. The writing was swift and powerful.

“Grandpa’s handwriting is getting better and better.” Shen Qinglan praised.

The Shen family is a military and political family that has been passed down for hundreds of years. Since the Qing Dynasty, the sons of the family have occupied a place in the army. Although not every generation joins the army, their influence in the army can be seen over the years.

Mr. Shen inherited the mantle of his ancestors and joined the army at a young age. He worked in the army all his life. Later, he retired when he was old. He spent his free time at home. His favorite things were practicing calligraphy and raising flowers. In his words, after being in the army for so many years, his temper became explosive. Writing, raising flowers and cultivating his body cultivated his character.

“You are the only one who talks sweetly.” Mr. Shen smiled. Every time he saw this beautiful but cold granddaughter, he felt particularly good.

“Did you go to the hospital to see your grandma today?”

“Well, I talked to grandma for a while.”

“Grandpa, mom said it’s time to eat.” The grandfather and grandson were talking, and Shen Xitong’s voice sounded outside the door.

“I know.” Mr. Shen responded, and the footsteps outside the door gradually faded away.

Shen Qinglan stepped forward and held Mr. Shen’s hand, “Grandpa is not too old to walk yet, so there is no need to hold him up.”

Although Mr. Shen said this, there was a smile in his eyes. Even if he didn’t need his granddaughter’s thoughts, he would not be willing to refuse.

Downstairs, Shen Xitong was helping Chu Yunrong serve the dishes. From time to time, she would say something to Chu Yunrong, which made Chu Yunrong smile. She looked like a mother and daughter with a very close relationship.

“Grandpa, sit down.” When Shen Xitong saw Mr. Shen coming down, he quickly pulled out the chair and asked him to sit down.

The family sat down, and Chu Yunrong served Shen Xitong a bowl of soup, “Tongtong, drink the soup first. This is what my mother stewed specially for you. It has been stewed for several hours.”

Shen Xitong took the soup and said, “Thank you, mom, mom loves me the most.” With one sentence, Chu Yunrong was so happy that she picked up her chopsticks and gave Shen Xitong a lot of her favorite dishes.

“You must not have eaten well abroad. I see that you have lost weight. I need to eat more today. These are your favorite foods.”

“Okay, it’s not like Xitong doesn’t have hands. He can just pick up whatever he wants to eat.” Mr. Shen frowned slightly and spoke.

Chu Yunrong’s hand holding the chopsticks froze, and she said with a sneer on her face, “What your grandpa said is that you can eat whatever you want.”

Shen Xitong couldn’t help but feel a little embarrassed when he looked at the mountains of plates in front of him and compared them with Shen Qinglan’s empty bowl.

Chu Yunrong obviously realized this and gave Shen Qinglan a piece of eggplant with chopsticks. “Qinglan, this eggplant tastes good. Try it.”

“Thank you, Mom.” Shen Qinglan thanked her, but didn’t touch it. She was not a picky eater, but eggplant was one of the few foods she hated. Everyone in the family knew this, except Chu Yunrong.

Shen Junyu stretched out his chopsticks, took the eggplant from Shen Qinglan’s plate, and ate it into his mouth. “Mom, you are biased. You are picking food for your two sisters without me.”

Chu Yunrong smiled and glared at her son, “If you want to eat, just say so. You even snatched food from your sister’s bowl. Do you still act like a big brother?”

Although I said this, I still gave my son a chopstick of his favorite dish.

“Grandpa, Mrs. Song’s braised pork ribs tonight are very bad. Please try it.” Sensing Mr. Shen’s gaze on her, Shen Qinglan took a piece of ribs to Mr. Shen and said softly.

Mr. Shen had a smile on his face, but his eyes were full of love.

“Tongtong, have you asked for leave from school when you come back this time?” Shen Xitong studied abroad in Vienna to further his piano studies at the famous Vienna Conservatory of Music.

At this point, Shen Xitong smiled. Although his voice was soft, he could not hide his pride: “This time our band will participate in a world tour. The next stop is Beijing. This time I will be the pianist.”

Shen Xitong has a high talent for piano, and Chu Yunrong taught her piano step by step. In order to help Shen Xitong learn better, Chu Yunrong also invited many famous teachers to teach her.

“Really, that’s great, my daughter is awesome!” Chu Yunrong is really happy. She has spent so much effort on this daughter. Shen Xitong’s achievements are the most proud thing for her.

“Who gave me such an excellent mother?” Shen Xitong said sweetly.

Chu Yunrong is also a famous pianist herself, so she loves Shen Xitong who has inherited her mantle.
