    Chapter Index

It’s already ten past eleven, and it’s lunch time.

Bai Li was called by her mother to help in the kitchen, leaving Shen An alone on the sofa talking to her father. Most of the time, Bai Jianwei was asking questions and Shen An was answering.

Bai Li couldn’t hear it and only glanced nervously at Shen An, but the man smiled at her reassuringly.

She took the plate and entered the kitchen, and was “tortured” by her two sisters and mother, “Why didn’t you tell us that you had a boyfriend?”

“Not… too late.” She put the onions under the faucet and rinsed them.

Zhou Juan took the green onion from her hand, stared at her and asked, “Tell me honestly, how long have you been dating? Is it your idea or his to bring him here this time? Do you plan to get married or continue to date for a few more years? Is his family a native of Nanshi? Do you have a house?”

The mother is a bit snobbish. She told the three sisters that they must find rich men when they fall in love and get married, because she has lived a hard life in the past and went into debt four years ago to buy this house. It took two years of tight life to get better. Who knows, the father injured his leg again, and the family lost one labor force, which meant one less salary. The mother could only live on the one thousand yuan a month that the three sisters now had. Of course she would not allow her daughter to marry a poor man.

“I think he should be quite rich.” Bai Xue started to help, “Didn’t he open a clinic? And looking at his clothes, he feels quite rich.”

Bai Ping nodded, looked at Bai Li and asked, “Does he have a house?”

Bai Li’s eyes were a little red. She didn’t want to answer this kind of question, but she had to answer, “Yes.”

“New house or old house? How big is it?” Zhou Juan asked more carefully, “How much can he earn in a month?”

Baili was a little embarrassed, “Mom, please don’t ask these questions, okay?”

“Don’t you know how much he makes per month?” Zhou Juan frowned, “Have you ever had sex with him?”

Bai Xue smiled awkwardly, “Mom, little sister, she is impossible. Don’t ask such questions.”

    Baili’s tears had already fallen.

Bai Xue was stunned for a moment, then pulled Bai Li in surprise, “Bai Li, you don’t know how to…?”

Zhou Juan pointed in the direction of the living room angrily and said, “If he dares not to marry you, I will find his home!” After she finished speaking, she glared at Bai Li, “You are a girl who goes out and they don’t give you anything, so you dare to sleep with anyone casually. Do you know how shameful it is?! You haven’t come back since you were out there. Is it because of this? Ah? Tell me! Is it just because of this?!”

Baili covered her face and apologized, “I’m sorry…”

Zhou Juan’s voice became louder and could be heard in the darkness of the living room. He stood up from the sofa. Bai Jianwei took a sip of water and said to him, “Don’t worry about it.”

Shen Anquan acted as if he didn’t hear anything and walked straight into the kitchen. He opened the kitchen door and walked up to Bai Li. He saw her covering her face and crying so hard that her body was trembling, and her heart ached with pain.

He took off his coat and put it over her head.

“Auntie, I came here today to talk to you about my marriage to Bai Li.”

Shen An held Bai Li in his arms and patted her head comfortingly with his big hands, “If you have any requests, you can tell me. I will agree to anything.”

Zhou Juan felt slightly relaxed when she heard what he said. After all, she was a little embarrassed when Shen An brought it up openly, so she blamed Bai Li, “This child, I cry after I say a few words. Don’t all mothers feel sorry for their children? What’s wrong with just a few words.”

“Yes, you are right.” Shen An looked at Zhou Juan, smiled slightly and said, “Don’t say it again next time, I feel more sorry for you than you do.”

Zhou Juan’s face turned red and white, and it was Bai Jianwei who shouted outside, “When can we eat?”

The people gathered in the kitchen dispersed.
