    Chapter Index

Ji Ning’s sleep was both deep and restless, and she had many chaotic nightmares. She woke up several times in the middle, but was so confused that she couldn’t open her eyes.

She felt hot but cold all over, and she unconsciously dug into the warm body next to her.

A cold hand touched her hot forehead, and a low voice sounded in her ears, her tone urgent: “Ningning has a fever.”

Ji Ning opened her eyes with difficulty, her consciousness escaped from the turbid dream, and she felt much more relaxed when she woke up.

It’s still dark outside, but after getting used to the darkness, my eyes can vaguely see some outlines.

She was surrounded by them, and three hands were on her forehead, cheeks, and the inside of her arms to take her temperature.

“I’m fine… I just have a slight fever.” She was still a little weak and her whole body was sore, but Ji Ning didn’t say anything because she was afraid that they would blame themselves.

She thought to herself that she really couldn’t bear to talk about being sick. During the day, she said that she was in good health, but she was knocked down at night. It happened that all three men were strong and healthy, but she was the only one, which made her look so weak.

“I’ll go to the drugstore to get some antipyretic medicine.” Shen Yu stood up and walked out.

“Wait, twist the bottle.” Ji Ning stopped him. It’s raining less outside now, but the floodwaters will definitely not only not return but will exceed yesterday’s water level.

She didn’t dare to let Shen Yu go, but if the fever didn’t go down and she didn’t have the strength, she would be a burden for a long time.

Shen Yu didn’t want Ji Ning to talk more. Although a bottle couldn’t do much, he still obediently took one and twisted it on his clothes.

Ji Ning leaned in Jiang Ting’s arms and watched Shen Yu’s blurry shadow leave. Then she realized that there were only five large bottles in total. After meeting Li Xiu today, she didn’t share them with him because they were not particularly dangerous.

“Xiu Xiu, you have to wear one too.” She looked in the direction of Li Xiu and told him.

Li Xiu didn’t reply, and silently twisted Ji Ning’s clothes until all three of Ji Ning’s bottles were tightened. He also helped her tuck the hem of her shirt into her pants to make the floating effect better.

After he finished, he whispered: “I am very good at water, so I wear it for you. You are the lightest, and you are the most dangerous if you are swept away.”

Ji Ning was about to speak when she suddenly felt herself being shaken violently by someone. Her head was already dizzy, and now she felt even more dizzy.

But she was sitting on Jiang Ting. Only Jiang Ting could shake her so much, right?

“It’s an earthquake! Let’s go!” Jiang Ting stood up with Ji Ning in his arms and walked quickly towards the exit.

Ji Ning also immediately realized something was wrong. Thinking back to the moment when she was dizzy while walking on the elevated highway yesterday, it turned out to be a precursor to an earthquake!

After feeling the heavy shaking at this moment, the shaking paused briefly for a few seconds, as if a high-energy early warning time had been set aside.

Before Jiang Ting could take two steps, the whole building began to shake and jolt several times more seriously than before.

Ji Ning felt like an ant in a box being shaken mischievously by a child, not just left and right, but also up and down.

Under such a powerful and irresistible chaotic external force, it was difficult to even stand firm, and it was even more difficult for Jiang Ting to carry people away.

Ji Ning took the initiative to break free and go downstairs, holding hands with Jiang Ting and running downstairs.

Various wine cabinets and desks in the hall were shaken and knocked to the ground. People who were woken up from their sleep screamed in panic, and those who were hit screamed even more horribly.

Wails were heard everywhere, and the unknown fear in the invisible darkness was infinitely amplified.

The place Ji Ning and she chose was in the corner, too far from where we went downstairs.

Now everyone was awakened by the shock. People who were able to move were rushing to the escalators and fire escapes. From the sound, they knew that the ground was blocked by water and there was no way out.

In such a strong earthquake, I don’t know how long this floor can hold up without collapsing. If the building collapses when we are blocked at the stairs, no one, no matter how capable, can do it.

Jiang Ting made a quick decision, took Ji Ning in his arms and turned around to walk to the window.

As early as when the earthquake started to feel particularly strong, they had already heard the sound of broken glass falling to the ground.

Without the window, I could see the gray sky outside, and it was almost dawn.

It only takes a dozen steps to run over. As long as everything goes smoothly, the chance of survival is definitely higher if you jump from the third floor and fall into the water than if you run out of the stairs.

The building was as fragile as tofu during the earthquake. It made a muffled sound when it shook. It felt like it would collapse into ruins at any time.

Surrounded by Jiang Ting and Li Xiu, Ji Ning stumbled towards the window and heard a loud muffled sound coming from above her head.

It only took a moment, before the dangerous aura of the giant falling thing reached her head, someone suddenly pushed her behind her.

Ji Ning stumbled and fell far away, but was caught by Jiang Ting who was also pushed and rolled together.

Ji Ning turned around, and with the dim light coming in from the broken window, she saw a large piece of cement slab with steel bars peeled off hitting the area where they were just now.

Li Xiu was pressed to his chest, with only his head and one arm exposed.

The edge of the broken cement board penetrated his clothes and flesh and penetrated into his chest and lungs, and large mouthfuls of bubbling blood spilled out of Li Xiu’s mouth.

His handsome face was stained with dark red blood, but he smiled at Ji Ning, his mouth opened with difficulty, and his weak voice sounded like a leak: “Let’s go! Let’s go!”
